Go West!
paulbrasch30 April 2008
Well here we go with the running, jumping, episode. Never in any other episode will you see more of James West moving around as much as this show. There is much to like in this episode, what with Simon Oakland, who was terrific in The Night Stalker, as the heavy Diamond Dave, Arte in disguise as a con artist preacher, Norbit the creepy woman-loving book-keeper and a script by the wonderful Paul Playdon who wrote a lot of the better Mission Impossibles it is a good episode let down by a weak finale. This is also the episode where Conrad nearly died in a very bad fall and it's all on camera for you to see. And boy it looks nasty. Overall good stuff.

This is where Robert Conrad was seriously injured.

Fans of Actor Robert Conrad will remember this show as the one that almost cost him his life. Conrad, who preferred to do his own stunts, was severely injured when he hit his head on a concrete floor. Incredibly, the scene was left in (it's where James West is in the saloon, he jumps from the landing at the top of the stairs, grabs the chandelier and swings out into the room. He fell 12 feet to the floor. It was a couple of MONTHS before he could start working again. The producers picked up the scene right where it left off. Look closely and you'll notice the furniture is changed a bit, otherwise it is continuous.

A decent episode, plenty of fighting and action, but it drags a little bit in the middle. And the ending totally fizzles out... it's just over all of a sudden.

One other thing is the scream by character Rhoda (actress Susan Hart). That has to be the most annoying scream in television history! Wait for it.

7 stars is the best I can do for The Night of the Fugitives.
