In memory of Colonel Robert Jack Washer
22 April 2014 | by (Jerusalem, Israel) – See all my reviews

The legendary Bob Matson was in actuality my father, cadet Bob Washer, West Point class of 1954. Here is an excerpt from Colonel Robert Jack Washer's biography as prepared for publication in TAPS, the West Point magazine devoted to the memory of it's graduates: "His most infamous escapade started with a "fluids" paper based on his steam-tunnel obsession. He calculated that the rate of corrosion of the water main, coupled with the simultaneous flushing of all the old north area toilets, would burst the underground pipes. When his professor gave him a "B", claiming the research too theoretical to be tested, he angrily posted plebes on every toilet in old north area, and on his signal succeeded in blowing the water main to kingdom come. The professor did not change his grade, but Bob's legend (including the striking resemblance) lived on in "Man of Action" in the ABC series "The West Point Story"."

For the record, Dad was a Yankee from Chicago.
