Scott Brady as gym teacher Lou Caruso
kevinolzak22 June 2016
"Caruso's Way" marked the only appearance of veteran actor Scott Brady, younger brother of Lawrence Tierney, a good choice for the role of gym teacher Lou Caruso, who becomes so incensed at Barbarino's constant clowning that he actually slaps him in full view of the girls' gym class. Epstein explains how Vinnie broke a leg on the hobby horse and suggested they just shoot it! Kotter remembers his days as a Sweathog when he first heard that Caruso had struck a student, the ever popular Bonzo Maretti, whose mother fought back by hitting him with a greasy Italian salami. Epstein suggests his brother's 'public offender,' Shapiro, Shapiro and Whiplash, but Vinnie has other ideas about getting even, his saintly mother praying for Caruso to suffer an accident. Kotter chats with Caruso and wants both sides to apologize for their behavior, but the gym teacher decides on another tactic to have Barbarino save face. Scott Brady was in his 50s but still fit enough to pass muster as a gym coach.
