Pat Morita as Taro Takahashi aka Mr. T
kevinolzak1 July 2016
"Career Day" not only kicked off the second season of WBK, it also served as the pilot for a series that practically ended the night it began, titled MR. T AND TINA (Susan Blanchard played Tina). Pat Morita, fresh off his breakout role as Arnold on HAPPY DAYS, plays inventor Taro Takahashi, featured speaker on career day, who gives as good as he gets from the Sweathogs. Barbarino naturally wonders where the best geisha houses in Japan might be! Mr. T's most famous creation is transistorized underwear, which doesn't go over as well as he'd hoped (Washington: "I'd hate to see him try to change stations!"). Kotter's class is persuaded to apologize for being bad students, but when Mr. T finds out how little Gabe makes as a teacher he makes him an offer he can't refuse. Julie confesses that she never gives her opinion on anything because her husband never listens (Gabe: "come again?"). A fine introduction to what turned out to be a lousy series, featuring the lone acting performance by regular WBK writer/producer George Yanok, capped by Mr. T's impressions of meeting the Sweathogs: "Sesame Street doing Madame Butterfly!"
