Blackwood Blows It
Johnny_West20 June 2020
Of the first episodes, this one is the worst, by far. It starts off with some goofy looking coroner walking into the morgue and finding over twenty cadavers with their brains ripped out. The acting in that first scene is really bad. The coroner is over the top trying to look shocked and scared, and he does an awful job of it.

Then they change the number of bodies from twenty to three dozen. That seems like a lot of bodies for a small town to have in the morgue. Ironhorse refuses to accept that their might be a connection to the aliens. Blackwood has a temper tantrum and locks himself in his study. Later, he refuses to work with the rest of the team, and drives off to search for the aliens on his own.

Meanwhile, the three main aliens (the Advocates), are going around ripping brains out of living people at a beauty salon, and driving a Winnebago while they try to find enough brains to cure one of them, who is dying from chicken pox. The whole cure is pretty ridiculous.

Even more ridiculous is that they left their cavern hideout with a couple of duffel bags of gear. When they get to the energy plant where they are going to hook up the Advocate to the brain juicer, they have a ton of pipes, hoses, and a full lab set. Apparently it was all in the duffel bags.

Blackwood figures out where the aliens are, and instead of going there with a few hand grenades or other weapons, he is totally unarmed, because he is a pacifist. He also never tells the rest of the team where the aliens are, because he is still sulking.

So Blackwood finds the aliens in the process of healing the Advocate, and instead of turning off the power grid, or throwing some machine parts or tools at the electrical lab set-up, he just crouches in awe, and watches them revive the sick alien. He also manages to look like a goofy idiot trying to look like he is witnessing the miracle of life. Really bad acting.

Instead of striking a blow to the alien leadership, Blackwood does absolutely nothing. Score another point for the aliens over the pathetic earthlings.
