Storyline

As Josh prepares to leave his hotel room in Allenville to go after outlaw Jack Torrance, a man knocks on his door. Upon entering, the man, Arthur Pierce Madison, introduces himself as a journalist from Boston in the west to do a series of articles on it including one on a bounty hunter. He was referred to Josh by a friend in the east. Although Madison comes off as a dandy, Josh agrees to let him trail along on the hunt. At his first stop for supplies, Josh suggests Madison pickup a pistol for protection but Madison states he dislikes guns. Madison does buy the revolver so Josh decides to teach him to shoot. Madison surprises Josh with his marksmanship saying he was on the pistol team in college. On the road they are ambushed by Torrance's partner Sid Gonda. With Madison's help Josh is able to capture Gonda but is forced to release him when Madison dislikes Josh's methods. They trail Gonda to Center City where Josh loses the trail but Madison's methods surprise Josh with results. Written by Anonymous

Some Real Surprises In This Story
2 April 2010 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Arthur Pierce Madison" (Michael Lipton) - is from a Boston newspaper and he's on assignment to write about the West, more specifically about the life of a bounty hunter. At first Josh isn't receptive but when Arthur tells him his name will become famous in print, it appeals to Randall's ego and he says, "okay."

He thinks he has to teach Arthur how to shoot and ride a horse but it turns out, he already knows both but in odd ways, and he only believes in shooting for sport. That's just one of several surprises by this "gentleman" from back East who is a nice guy but sometimes a hindrance when Josh goes searching for tough-guy "Jack Torrance," a man wanted for murder and armed robbery.

About halfway through this episode comes a big surprise, at least to this viewer. "Arthur" is in a saloon talking to this pretty woman with a low-cut dress and she looks familiar. When she speaks, I recognized the voice: it is Mary Tyler Moore!! She plays "Sophie Anderson," kind of a Southern con artist looking to get name in print. It was shocking to see what she showed, skin-wise, after mainly seeing her only as the more modestly-dressed "Laura Petrie" or "Mary Richards." According to her resume here on IMDb, MTM had been acting in TV roles for a couple of years.

Anyway, Lipton is the star of this episode which combined drama and humor.
