Josh is escorting prisoner Daniel Trenner back who declares he is innocent for a $400 bounty plus expenses. When they stop at a water hole, Josh is surprised by Sheriff Howard Catlett who put the wanted poster out for Trenner. After using Josh to capture the man on a fictitious charge, the sheriff takes the prisoner leaving Josh with no gun and runs off his horse. After Josh recovers his horse, he tracks the sheriff and Trenner to an abandoned house and barn. Once again Josh is caught off guard by Catlett who knocks him out. Josh finds himself a prisoner along with Trenner forced to wait until that evening to learn their fate. Three men dressed in Union uniforms enter the barn followed by Catlett donning his own Union uniform. Trenner recognizing the men thinks it is a reunion until slapped and told he is on trial. The court martial is conducted by the four former soldiers who believe the captive - their former lieutenant - deserted them in a rebel ambush six years earlier. Josh is ... Written by
