Storyline

Josh is down on his luck after playing cards and getting cleaned out. John Garth enters asking for Josh who he wants to speak to privately saying he has a job for Josh for $100 a day plus expenses. They move over to the bar where Garth offers Josh a job helping find his fiancé Leslie who has disappeared. At first Josh assumes she simply left him and doesn't want to get involved. Garth then shows him a telegram he received that indicates she may be dead. Garth has traveled to Hogan looking for Leslie who was a singer and member of a troupe that played at Hogan. Hogan, nearly dead, is owned by Frank Jeffers who won't say where she is or went but agrees she did play at Hogan. Frank decides Skeek should give Garth a false location where she is staying. The Wife: Dead Or Alive?
19 November 2009 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

A man hires "Josh" to find his wife. The catch is that she's dead!

Huh?

Josh soon discovers his new boss has discovered his wife really isn't dead. She was buried but he finds out the coffin is empty.....so where is she? The husband, "Jolhn Garth" (Arthur Franz) thinks someone has run off with her because he got a rude welcoming from the head of the town when he came and discovered the empty grave. He suspects the bully of the town, "Frank," is hiding something (like his wife!).

Randall (Steve McQueen) suggests maybe his wife has voluntarily gone into hiding but Garth, of course, didn't want to believe that. He simply gives Josh a hundred dollar bill and asks him to accompany him back to that town to find out what's going on. Josh shrugs, as he usually does, and says okay. The fact that he just lost all his money in a poker game probably added some incentive to be employed soon.

We find out the truth, which involves a few twists near and then at the end. In the middle, Josh gets into a fight with Frank and gets beaten up.

(The good guy doesn't always win in this series, which is one reason why "Wanted:Dead Or Alive" was such a good TV program.) Mort Mills is effective as the tough town thug "Mort Mills" who isn't what he seems.
