Olivia's illness and departure was similar to both my grandmothers. One in particular, left young kids and husband to return to her home place on a mountainside (it was believed the clearer air was beneficial for TB). Unfortunately she died (as did my other grandmother), and we were told a lot about her growing up. Watching those last few scenes made me think that's what it must have been like for my family. Both grandmothers would have been a similar age to Olivia. Especially as I never met my two grandmothers, this brought their struggles somewhat to life. A very moving episode.

Another cast member leaves

The Waltons barely resembles the original offering. I guess with a family growing up and war claiming lives, these things can happen, but it was disappointing to see another cast member leave.
Olivia tells her family that her absence will be temporary, but this serves only to deceive the audience because she does not return to her family.
A true disappointment in this actress, in particular.
