Eight years after she took in an orphaned newborn, Millie and the girl Penny are visited by their long time friend Flint at Cherokee. The incoming stage is held up by the bandit Ike who has a $1,000 bounty on him. After killing the drivers, he forces the three passengers to walk into Cherokee. Upon arriving in Cherokee, they meet Millie and Flint. They tell Millie that they are there to look for information on Mrs. Winston's dead son and wife and her granddaughter they believe is still there. Initially Millie tells them Penny is Flint and her daughter but she comes to realize Mrs. Winston has the resources to give Penny the up bringing she deserves.
