With a little help from Wooster
24 November 2013 | by (Buffalo, New York) – See all my reviews

Joseph Cotten who was Virginia born and bred guest stars in this Wagon Train episode about a southern gentleman and gambler by trade who acquires the contract of Nobu McCarthy from a Chinese merchant James Hong who was unlucky at cards. Now who was the lucky one in this story is for you to judge as the action unfolds.

Imagine if Ashley Wilkes had never married Melanie Hamilton and was shed of Scarlett O'Hara's infatuation with him and you have some idea as to Cotten's character. Maybe a bit of Hatfield from Stagecoach thrown in as well. In any event the two of them sharing a wagon without benefit of clergy upsets some of the more puritan minded of the Wagon Train's other passengers like Meg Wyllie and Willard Waterman. But marriage would upset them even more.

Cotten and McCarthy perform their roles well and certainly Cotten's southern background truly helps with his character. John McIntire has his hands full in keeping peace on the Wagon Train.

In the end the problem is solved with the unwitting help of Frank McGrath. Now what Charlie Wooster can do in this situation is for you to see this story for.
