Jed Whitmore, one of three brothers that committed an infamous train robbery, is now town sheriff Frank Lewis but his brother released from prison comes to town with a fellow inmate and a reporter to get paid for the Jed Whitmore story.

The three Whitmore brothers feeling anger toward the railroad decide to hold it up. The baggage man is killed along with one of the brothers but the other two escape with $100,000. The older brother Harry is caught spending 20 years in prison while the younger brother Jed escapes to the west to never be heard from again. Harry has been released from prison along with cellmate Marv Jennings. The pair are traveling on the Hale wagon train with newspaper reporter William Carr. His paper has promised the payment of $10,000 if they can lead him to Jed Whitmore. They are headed to Stringtown as is Patsy Lewis who is returning home where her stepfather has been sheriff for years and is well respected. Coop will be taking them there as the train does not go to Stringtown. Once Harry finds his brother who refuses to acknowledge him but Carr may solve the mystery on his own. Written by Anonymous
