Chris Hale and Charlie Wooster take Dan Highet, his son Eddie, and sick daughter Jennie along with Annie Duggan to a nearby town for help from a doctor for Jennie who has typhoid fever. Hale recalls how Annie Duggan selflessly nursed the elderly Clinton couple she worked for until they died of typhoid fever on the wagon train. Afterward, it was necessary for her to be quarantined for two weeks, but she showed no signs of the disease, and she has agreed to marry Dan Highet, another passenger on the wagon train and the father of two children of his own. Now Dan's little girl Jennie has come down with the illness. The illness has been a contentious issue on the wagon train with some led by Martha Leeds think Annie should be isolated as she may be a carrier. Hale must relay to Annie the doctor's devastating news about why so many people she has been close to over the years have died. Written by rbecker28
