- Herb Tarlek: [nurse tries to feed him] No. No. Not one bite until I see Mr. Carlson.
- Nurse: You know what will happen if you don't eat?
- Herb Tarlek: What?
- Nurse: You'll die!
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [wants loan, why else would he talk to Les?] So, how's it going?
- Les Nessman: Well, last night I was feeling completely alone in the cosmos.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [fake sympathy] Oh.
- [pats Les' shoulder]
- Les Nessman: An insignificant speck in the sandbox of time.
- [which reminds Johnny to check his wristwatch]
- Les Nessman: Which is unusual for me, Johnny, I'm usually a pretty up fellow.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [fake] I'll say.
- Les Nessman: But sometimes this job gets to me.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: Mm-hmm.
- Les Nessman: But then I remembered what Mother Nessman said to do when frustrated. And so I beat my rugs. Every night this week, I've beaten my rugs. They're very clean.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [stifles giggle] Fascinating, Les.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [enters lobby where acting receptionist Bailey is eating sandwich] Bailey, I need a favor.
- Bailey Quarters: Here.
- [surrenders sandwich]
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [declines sandwich] If somebody comes looking for me, especially somebody big, I'm not here, okay? You haven't seen me.
- Bailey Quarters: Why don't you just go home?
- Dr. Johnny Fever: Oh, sure. That's what they expect me to do.
- [tapping his temple:]
- Dr. Johnny Fever: Think!
- Bailey Quarters: [as he bumps into her coming out of booth] Oh, John, I'm just coming to see you.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: Bailey, are you rich?
- Bailey Quarters: Uh, only in the things that count, and I'm pretty keyed up about it.
- [chuckles, then consults list:]
- Bailey Quarters: Okay, John, your turn to visit Herb is pushed up to tonight.
- Dr. Johnny Fever: I need to get your reaction to an amount of money.
- Bailey Quarters: Mm?
- Dr. Johnny Fever: [as Les signals Bailey from broadcasting booth to watch out] Ah, five hundred sixty-two dollars, sixteen cents.
- Bailey Quarters: Who do I have to kill to get it?
- Howard Liske: [to Jennifer, before going in to see Mr. Carlson] Wish me luck, doll face, I need this job!
- [Jennifer mocks him after he's walked past]
- Jennifer Marlowe: [entering Mr. Carlson's office] Excuse me, are you ready for the next gentleman?
- Arthur Carlson: Yes.
- [gets up]
- Jennifer Marlowe: Fine. I'll just wait in here until you decide.
- [wafts air in front of her nose]
- Jennifer Marlowe: Cheap cologne makes me nauseous.
