Lesser Episode Of An Outstanding Season
11 August 2010 | by See all my reviews

A clown appears on the Seaview and he turns most of the crew into Wax Men.

The highly regarded Voyage/Sea fan - Mark Phillips - called this episode "one of Voyage's most boring hours" and he is totally correct. What makes it worse is that The Wax Men came after Voyage did a long nine week run of high quality shows, so to suddenly find an episode filled with Nelson in a box and the crew turned into Wax Men! Help! I get the feeling Irwin Allen had a strong hand in this hour as Irwin loved the circus, and The Big Circus (1959), so maybe Irwin suggested the idea to the writer? Even Irwin had bad days.

There is a semi-amusing story that goes with the Australian screenings of this hour: Voyage/Sea was often replayed Down Under in the 1970s and early 1980s. Then in late 1984 the series was put to rest by a network for being "so old". I waited and waited for the series to come back. In the late 1980s just one single episode was given a late night screening...you guessed it...The Wax Men!
