This Is Where The Problems Started
15 August 2010 | by See all my reviews

Crane and Chip become spacemen (???????) and go to Venus. Meanwhile on earth, a trouble making Venus alien is on board Seaview with Nelson.

I have gone on record as saying that 21 of the 26 episodes that make up the cartoon-ish Voyage year three are outstanding. I like all the past Voyage alien encounters. So why do I have an issue with Journey With Fear and some of the other year four alien encounters? Is it just me? We know Irwin Allen was putting together the massive budget - Land Of The Giants - series when he was doing Voyage year four: is that the problem? Is year four too un-Irwin? That could be the problem, I know Irwin dis-liked the actor playing Chip, maybe that was the reason Chip is more featured in Journey With Fear, maybe Irwin was not around to keep him away?

Journey With Fear features crap looking aliens, terrible sounding aliens and the music used in the episode is not that good. But there are things to enjoy: the sets! The Venus sets are fine, the Venus cave set is cool, the spaceship set is okay and the Seaview set with all the ex-Time Tunnel computers all bunched together is OUTSTANDING.

Oddly enough, the most memorable moment comes from a simple two minute scene of Sharkey and Pat talking about nothing much at all. It looks like the bit was just added to fill in the 50 minute running time. It is memorable because it is the only non-event moment of the hour.

Despite this review, I should point out that Journey With Fear is liked by many and Chip fans will be very happy with it.
