A Real Virginian Episode

This episode reveals why The Virginian was so loved. Real life issues, people with flaws. And the color is magnificent and not fake gold tinged picture.

Warning: Spoilers
Opening on a downed Angas bull which has been poisoned by Loco weed, after a fence was cut, and the Virginian later meeting the widow, Laura Duff, of the property founder.

Her son Jimmy is hot to trot in getting revenge but is talked to by the alcoholic ranch foreman Reedy not that it did much good as it appears Jimmy is intent on causing trouble no matter what.

It looks as though there are a few more suspects than first appears and one in particular is rather close to home. When the Virginians's conversation with Laura about investigating the fence being cut is overheard this leads to the Virginian being shot.

Positively biblical.

A whole flock of old movie names are in this Virginian episode which has James Drury going to buy a herd of cattle from widow Dina Merrill. Merrill wants to pull out and go back east with her son Andrew Parks. Parks is carrying a big old chip on his shoulder over his father's death holding neighbor Van Johnson responsible.

Others in the cast are Stephen McNally as a neighbor of Merrill's with a grudge, Slim Pickens as the sheriff, Chill Wills as Merrill's foreman with a drinking problem and Ruth Roman as Johnson's wife who is a paraplegic.

this does not have your usual western themes. In fact the reasons for all that has befallen Merrill and Parks is positively biblical.

What they mean by adult western.

I even expected to see jack elam in this cast but after 40 minutes all i found was corn so i expected the pone next and i wasn't disappointed ... raising cattle is always about water rights so it didn't take long to figure out the culprits
