What he did for love
bkoganbing24 December 2019
Dick York as a cowhand and Joan Freeman as a visiting society girl co-star in this Virginian episode where Freeman willfully sets in motion a series of events that cause tragedy. There is in fact an ongoing rustling problem and Shiloh neighbor Robert F. Simon is all for lynching them on the spot when found.

Freeman is a flirt and York falls hard for her. She also tries her ways on James Drury, but The Virginian is way too smart.

Some elements of the plot of the original Owen Wister novel are in this episode. Warren Oates has a small role in this story.

This one is one of the best from the second season.

Love this episode for a lot of reasons. One reason is the premise that this random chick thinks that SHE is the one who could "put a ring in (his) nose" of OUR VIRGINIAN! An absolute joy watching him put her in her place! Another good reason is i see that Warren Oates is for once playing a good guy! Kinda heroic even! ... Here's a reason! One great extra benefit of watching lots of westerns is that we get to see lots of famous actors just as they're starting out! Wasn't Dick York wonderful as Jeff?! And the ending! COOL such a very VIRGINIAN finale! Ok but no spoilers bc i despise them soo just lemme say: imho it's a thoroughly terrific episode, yinz should check it out!
