In his 1989 autobiography "It Would Be So Nice If You Weren't Here...", Charles Grodin reveals he was making a career playing heavies in Western TV shows at the time, and always tried to stand out by speaking with a deeper voice than the other villains. When he came to do a scene with Charles Bronson, it became a competition to see which one of them could speak the lowest, and Bronson won.
Charles Bickford's last appearance in The Virginian and last film appearance.
