Storyline

The Virginian runs into an old friend Bill Burden who along with two other men are returning money from selling the combined herds of several small ranchers. The Virginian looking for horses and Bill leave together and spend the night talking about old times when The Virginian lived with them during a winter. Upon returning home Bill is accused of robbery and murder. Bill tells his son, Dan, to go ask The Virginian to come immediately to Socorro Creek to clear him. The Viriginian is delayed a day by Shiloh business but still arrives before the scheduled trial. However, when he arrives at Socorro Creek he finds his friend lynched and a very unfriendly reception. The Virginian is determined to learn the truth while Kate still has feelings for the Virginian as he had for her. The Virginian has to try to keep Dan in check who feels he must avenge his dad plus he must determine the truth about what happened by questioning all the principals as the key witness against Bill turns up dead.
