John Grainger asks an old friend from Maryland to come to Shiloh to take the rough edges off his grandkids. She does as he asks quite well but is less than popular with the kids and The Virginian. Unknown to them, she has a secret plan.

Storyline

John Grainger requests Mrs. Miles, an old childhood friend, to live with the family and teach the grandkids the proper manners and skills he feels they need. Her husband was killed during the Civil War and their Maryland home was burned by Union troops. Mrs. Miles lets The Virginian know the only place in the house he should visit is the kitchen. She teaches Elizabeth the proper way to clean the house as she redecorates it and even Elizabeth's room. When she replaces Elizabeth's plain style cooking the family is accustom to with spicier and more elaborate methods, it makes Elizabeth feel inadequate. She attempts to teach Stacey formal dancing as part of his training as a gentleman. The Virginian and grandkids discuss some of the issues with John Grainger but he doesn't realize the angst being generated until Elizabeth and then Stacey ask to leave home and The Virginian clarifies some facts. John doesn't realize that Mrs. Miles has her own plan for him and the kids created by her ... Written by Anonymous
