Superb Acting

Great Acting. Gary Clarke really shines in this one. This episode is entertaining and thought provoking. I do not want to put any spoilers in this review. It is worth watching. If only television shows were anywhere near this level today.

Meet some quality folk

Guest starring on this episode of The Virginian are Howard Duff and Ida Lupino along with Joey Heatherton playing Lupino's daughter. Duff has just returned to Medicine Bow after a 3 year stretch in prison for a robbery where Gary Clarke identified him as one of the robbers. Other participants remain as yet unknown and the money has never turned up.

After Duff and Clarke keep running into each other much to Clarke's annoyance, Clarke is nearly killed in a road accident when the wagon he was driving is sabotaged.

Then Duff is killed and no one can prove anything but suspicions keep pointing at Clarke.

Ida Lupino really stands out in this story as a most ruthless woman determined to get out of Medicine Bow so she and Heatherton can associate with some quality folks in the East. Her part is not unlike the one she played as the bakery owner in the classic western Lust For Gold. Her scenes have some real bite to them.

The ending is unrealistic, but the performances from the guest cast stand out.
