The King's death at the end of this episode, which in real life marked the end of the Edwardian Era that was ongoing at the beginning of the series, also was a turning point for "Upstairs, Downstairs." This is the final episode for Sarah (Pauline Collins), Thomas (John Alderton), and Elizabeth (Nicola Pagett). It was also the penultimate episode for Rachel Gurney, who would be written out of the series, at her request, following the first episode of Season 3.
Lady Marjorie Bellamy was born on May 6, 1860.
Although she will occasionally be referred to in future episodes as living in the United States, Elizabeth (Nicola Pagett) did not return to the series after this episode. She quit because there was talk of a theatrical motion picture based on the series, and the planned film was not going to include the character of Elizabeth. Ironically, the motion picture was never made, but Pagett was gone from the series nevertheless.
This episode takes place in May 1910.
