Storyline

In the Gypsy quarter of Chicago, drunkenness is taking its toll in fights and killings. The local community elders, known as the Senate, want to bring it to an end but come into conflict with Janos Colescou, owner of much of the illicit liquor distribution in the area. He kills the head of the Senate, Victor Bartok and when the opposition continues, kills his brother Fedor. Throughout, Colescou has revived an old custom of posting his victims name on an old tree in the neighborhood. For Ness and his men, the goal is to try to bring Colescou out into the open and for that they get help from Victor Bartok's daughter Magda. She tells him that Colescou has personal reasons for wanting to get rid of the Bartoks. Written by garykmcd

An odd change of pace

In this politically correct world, the word 'Gypsy' isn't widely acceptable any more and so I'll use the more accepted and less offensive 'Romani'. This episode of "The Untouchables" is about vendettas and warfare within a Romani community in Chicago. Here, they take their grudges very seriously and the flow of illegal alcohol leads to lost tempers, stabbings and death. Janos Colescou (Charles Bronson) is in charge of the alcohol coming into this community and he uses a strange way to convince folks to tow the line...the names of folks about to be killed are posted on a tree in the downtown! One of these about to die is Fedor (Ed Asner). Ness has had enough of all this craziness and death and is intent on shutting down Colescou's lucrative and nasty business.

This is an odd episode to say the least and not altogether entertaining nor memorable. I am sure Romani folks aren't thrilled about it either as it paints them in less than wonderful terms. But at least it has the lovely BarBara Luna to look at throughout the episode.
