Storyline

In the Gypsy quarter of Chicago, drunkenness is taking its toll in fights and killings. The local community elders, known as the Senate, want to bring it to an end but come into conflict with Janos Colescou, owner of much of the illicit liquor distribution in the area. He kills the head of the Senate, Victor Bartok and when the opposition continues, kills his brother Fedor. Throughout, Colescou has revived an old custom of posting his victims name on an old tree in the neighborhood. For Ness and his men, the goal is to try to bring Colescou out into the open and for that they get help from Victor Bartok's daughter Magda. She tells him that Colescou has personal reasons for wanting to get rid of the Bartoks. Written by garykmcd

They Take Care Of Their Own.......Sometimes
23 April 2012 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This was an ethnic story where the people in the neighborhood "take care of or own,"which could be good or bad depending on the circumstance. The ruling body in the local was "The Senate" and the one who had the premier seat and rule over it, although all views were listened to.

When bad liquor, a.k.a. rot gut, is the only alcohol in town and it results with too much violence, Elliot Ness goes to these gypsies to try to end the crime. After Frank Nitti's boys rub out two gypsy senate brothers, we learn the man who is providing the liquor and trying to avenge is father's death from 10 years ago, is "Janos Colescou" played by the rugged Charles Bronson.

Ness has to deal with folks that are new to him, as well as the crime lords and this new punk who is so filled with hate that he will not stop until all of the Bartok family is dead. By the way, one of the Bartok's is played by Ed Asner, and he's not easy to recognize.

Barbara Luna is interesting as "Magna Bartok," the daughter of Victor Bartok.
