Created by Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney. The latter directed the first five episodes.

Unscripted is a semi improvised comedy drama that charts the struggles of three actors trying to make it in Hollywood.

They are Krista Allen, a single mother who wants to be seen as a serious actress. However she gets jobs more for her looks and body.

Bryan Greenberg who goes from auditions to auditions, hoping his scenes survive the final cut.

Jennifer Hall is enthusiastic but not as pretty as Krista.

All three are rather naive about the industry. Bryan gets backstabbed by a friend who crashes into his audition.

They all go to the same acting classes run by Goddard Fulton (Frank Langella.) He is stern as he wants his student to live and breathe acting, so they can have a worthwhile long career.

It might be hard to fathom that these budding actors jump into the Hollywood machine with no knowledge of how the industry works. Unbelievably that does happen in real life.

So there are scenes of Jennifer 'acting' when she is a double for lighting purposes. She doesn't even know what a double does.

Bryan does not know which union he should join. That the work he does could end up on the cutting room floor or even be wary of boasting about auditions to friends.

George Clooney has been upfront about his struggles as an actor looking for that big break. Even though he had family members that were famous in showbusiness.

You can see this in the first episode as he brings his past experience to the forefront. I guess the leads playing 'themselves' are doing the same.

I did find the first episode uneven. Your mileage might vary if you do not find this kind of behind the scenes faux documentary setting fascinating.
