Writers haven't been to law school

I love any episode of Two and a Half Men where Charlie's misadventures cause drama and pain for Alan (A sack full of Jawea is hilarious in this respect) but this episode really pushes the boundaries of credulity.

Laura sleeping with Charlie is not unethical. However, her actions in the mediation are, where she completely sells Alan out over the property settlement. Such actions in fact constitute legal malpractice, as she is acting without instructions and not in the best interests of her client.

So while Alan may be disgruntled that his case has been delayed, he wouldn't have had to pay a cent to Laura or her firm.
