- A wounded Agent Cooper has a vision of a giant who gives him several clues about the murder of Laura Palmer. Shelly and Pete recover from the mill fire, but Josie and Catherine are missing.
- FBI's Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) is shot by an unknown person at his hotel room. Deputy Andy Brennan (Harry Goaz) is on the phone, talking to him about the case. The elderly tall waiter (Hank Worden) hangs up the phone after telling Cooper that he's brought him his milk. Cooper tells him to call a doctor. The waiter tells Cooper that he has heard about him, meaning that he isn't surprised by anything eccentric which Coooper may do.
Cooper has a vision: The Giant (Carel Struycken) will tell him three things, and when they become true, he'll believe. - There's a man in a smiling bag.- The owls are not what they seem.
- Without chemicals, he points.
We come back to Audrey Horne (Sherilynn Fenn), who is trying not to have sex at the One-Eyed Jacks with her own father, Benjamin "Ben" Horne (Richard Beymer). Jerry Horne (David Patrick Kelly) saves her because he needs to call Ben, as they have a difficult situation. Meanwhile, at the same pub, Blackie O'Reilly (Victoria Catlin) has problems with her addiction to drugs.
Cooper activates his recording device, and says that he's lucky that he was carrying his bulletproof vest as regulations order. He regains consciousness to notice that his ring is gone. Cooper wakes up at hospital. Lucy Moran (Kimmy Robertson) and Sheriff Harry S. Truman (Michael Ontkean) are there, together with Doc Will Hayward (Warren Frost). As Leo has been shot by his own wife, bullied and beaten Shelly Johnson (Mädchen Amick) they don't even need to apply for permission to register the home. In another room of the same hospital, Ronette Pulaski (Phoebe Augustine) is still at a come.
Madeleine 'Maddy' Ferguson (Sheryl Lee) tells Sarah Palmer (Grace Zabriskie) about the strange dream he had last night. They are interrupted by stupid and weird Leland Palmer (Ray Wise), who dances and sings in the living room. His hair has also turned silvery white. There, on the carpet, Maddy has a vision of Laura Palmer and Bob (Frank Silva).
Deputy Hawk (Michael Horse) find the cocaine in James Hurley (James Marshall)'s motorbike deposit. As Andy discovers by chance a hidden spot for a pair of boots and a lot of cocaine, Leo looks linked to the drug trafficking. Maddy asks Donna if it's true about James. He's still at jail. Dr Jacoby (Russ Tamblyn) is still at hospital, after somebody beat him up after having watched the videotape of Maddy pretending to be late Laura Palmer. Norma Jennings (Peggy Lipton) gives Audrey a note from somebody saying "LOOK AT THE MEALS ON WHEELS"
FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield (Miguel Ferrer) hates countryside life. Andy discovers that Leo was in 1998 in the Montana gail, so he's got an alibi for the murder of Teresa Banks, the girl which was supposed to have been killed by the same person who killed Laura and almost kills Ronette Pulaski.
The man with only one arm asks to see Cooper, but Lucy doesn't allow it.
James tells Harry about the time when, in the woods, Laura asked him whether he wanted to play with fire, and whether he wanted to play with BOB. Donna Hayward (Lara Flynn Boyle) sees James in jail. She acts all cocky and kisses James, who rejects her because of her unusual behaviour.
Cooper gives Lucy and Andy old numbers of the porn magazine in which Laura used to advertise, so that they can look for fotographs of Teresa Banks. Dr Jacoby finally wakes up, and Cooper and Harry visit him. Dr Jacoby finally talks about the half of Laura's necklace, and is surprised when he hears that Cooper had it. Jacoby tells how he saw James and Donna bury something under a rock, and he took it as a keepsaving. Laura was living a double life, and things got so complex that she had decided to die: although she didn't try to commit suicide, her psyquatrist said that she allowed herself to die.
Bobby Briggs (Dana Ashbrook) goes to hospital to bring flowers to his lover Shelly Johnson (Mädchen Amick). He wants to take her out of hospital, as, according to him, the food and the people at hospitals are dangerous. They love each other. Cooper, Truman and Rosenfield see Briggs leaving hospital. Norma also visits Shelly at hospital. Norma feels jealous of the loving affection between Big Ed and Nadine, as he's supporting her through her state.
Big Ed Hurley (Everett McGill) is also at hospital, waiting for Nadine Hurley (Wendy Robie) to wake up from her comatose state. There, Cooper finds the first of the three clues The Giant had given him.
Major Garland Briggs (Don S. Davis) comes across Bobby at the diner, and he asks him about school. The major can't talk about his job because it's clasified. The major talk about the vision he had last night - he was in the great palazzo with his son. Bobby appeared on that dream being happy, living a life of deep harmony and joy. When the major leaves, Hank Jennings (Chris Mulkey) salutes him the military way. Bobby, who stayed behind, realises that it was Hank who tried to kill Leo. Cooper says that both Leo and Jacques had sexual relations with Laura, but there was also a third man present there, whom they don't know anything about. The blood on the scrap of paper with "FIRE WALK WITH ME" written on it, was not Laura's, Ronette's, Leo's or Jacques Renault's. Andy freaks out because of the non-chalant way they talk about late Laura Palmer. Lucy watches him in amazement.
Jocelyn "Josie" Packard (Joan Chen) leaves Pete Martell (Jack Nance) a note saying that she's leaving on a emergency business to another town. Pete thinks that Josie goes there to paint the town red and shop. However, nor Josie or Catherine Martell (Piper Laurie) have appeared after the fire. Harry advises Pete to hope for the best but prepare for the worst, as it's weird that neither of them have appeared after the fire. That they didn't find their remains doesn't constitute hope.
An Asian Man (Mak Takano) phones asking for Josie. He hangs up when Harry S. Truman asks him who is asking for her. Ben wonders where Audrey is, but Jerry doesn't know either.
Audrey says to Blackie that the owner is not her type. Audrey also rejects Blackie. Blackie insists that, from now on, everybody is going to be her type. Audrey realises she's a prisoner there. Audrey prays that Cooper won't think any the less of her because she's trying to help him with Laura's investigation. She prays that - if there is any way Cooper can hear her, he has to do so. The Giant appears at Cooper's room and wakes Cooper up. He had forgotten to tell him that the things which he talked about, they aren't wrong. He tells him that a person - known to him - saw the third man, but not his body. He also tells him that he'd forgotten something, but the Giant doesn't tell what Cooper forgot.
Donna investigates Meals on Wheels. Gersten Hayward (Alicia Witt) is going to play to entertain the Palmers, as Donna used to do when she was younger. They write a type of poem about late Laura Palmer crying. Leland and Sarah like the poem and the light piano music. Leland passes out when singing and dancing merrily.
Ronette wakes up to dream and remember how Bob killed Laura.
