Storyline

Janet Tyler, a women with facial deformities in a totalitarian society that emphasizes conformity even in in physical appearance, is undergoing her twelfth surgery in an attempt to make her appear normal. It is the last chance she can legally receive to alter her looks, and if it succeeds, she will fit in with those around her for the first time in her life. If it fails, she must be transported to a "segregated" colony of those who look like her rather than as the norm do. Written by brainybrailler@comcast.net

Quotes

Janet Tyler: Mr. Smith?
Walter Smith: Yes?
Janet Tyler: Why are some of us born so ugly?
Walter Smith: I don't know, Miss Tyler. I really don't know. But you know something? It doesn't really matter. There's an old saying - very, very old saying: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." When we leave here, when we go to the village, keep that in mind. Try, Miss Tyler, say it over and over in your mind. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
