Most Twilight Zone fans will recognize this for what it is. A remake. And Easi Morales and Maury Chaykin do a good job with arguably great material. And for anyone who has seen the original, this is a really good bit of television. The character names are the same. But that's where the comparison ends. Jack Klugman as Jesse was grittier and played the role a small time local pool hall denizen. Who's haunted by his background. And just wants to have one thing where he's the best there is. And Jonathan Winters as Fats was incredible. Few actors alive or dead could emote so much with just their face. The usually funny man did a better job of adding menace to his character that (in my opinion) exceeded that of Maury Chaykin. And as usual, the older episode being shot in black and white just felt grittier and looked just great. A pretty good effort. But anyone who this one. Should make an effort to see the original.
