Orson Welles through the eyes of Montana Max

'Tiny Toon Adventures' is a personal favourite, regardless of some episodes being better or more consistent than others and some characters being more interesting than others (which may be down to that they are used more and have funnier material). It excelled in many of the individual story episodes and a lot of the episodes that are made up of two or more segments and a wraparound story to link them together are immensely enjoyable as well.

"Citizen Max" is one of 'Tiny Toon Adventures' best and most inspired episodes to me. Or at least of the individual story episodes and certainly of the early ones. Those that weren't fans of Montana Max beforehand may find themselves converted (either temporarily or permanently), though he is an acquired taste character. Have not really had a major problem with him myself, though he is not one of the best characters of the show, but when he has great material he is great fun. "Citizen Max", strongly influenced by 1941's 'Citizen Kane' which is considered one of the best and most important films ever made for good reason, is a very strong contender for his best episode.

One of the most striking assets of "Citizen Max" is the animation, on that front it is the most unique 'Tiny Toons Adventures' episodes because of its film noir-ish look (am a big fan of that style so that is a big compliment). The frame set-ups are very cleverly and affectionately crafted and the lighting is wonderfully noir-ish. There is a mentioned goof about Buster's ears, but that is not enough to ruin the episode at all. The music is as ever dynamic with the action and the theme song is hip and catchy, one will have absolutely no trouble remembering it and that is meant in a good way.

Have always found a lot to like about the writing for 'Tiny Toon Adventures', and "Citizen Max" does nothing to change that. Despite the title, it is not a complete parody of 'Citizen Kane' as there are also references to other things too. It also parodies '60 Minutes' and references a healthy dose of Looney Tunes cartoons too, though it is a case of one being familiar with the cartoons themselves to completely get them but this is a case actually of not needing to be completely familiar with what is being referenced to find it funny. The writing is as razor sharp and witty as ever. The story is a lot of fun and nostalgic, showing respect for the film and everything else it references as well as putting its own spin.

Absolutely love all the characters here. Montana Max gets the lion's share, although that may not be a good thing for those that never warmed to him "Citizen Max" turned out to be a perfect showcase for the character, his traits/personality and for the show too. He comes over very well here. Hamton plays a role here as an interviewer, he is not my favourite on the show but he is a lot of fun here and the role suits him well. The voice acting is great, with Danny Cooksey in one of his shining moments voicing Montana Max.

Summarising, a wonderful episode. 10/10

Best Tiny Toons Episode Ever

I am a big Montana Max fan and found this episode the best one I ever watched. It tells the story of Monty and how he became rich and mean. It had a good and funny plot and was entertaining with the characters, especially Montana Max. Love this episode, and its my most favorite, 10/10!
