- An artist "pawns" his soul to the devil and must retrieve it by painting a portrait of another person whose soul will be exchanged for his.
- MacDonald Carey is Hector Vane, a struggling artist who goes to a pawnshop to get a loan for one of his paintings. The old pawnbroker has been replaced by the Devil, and he doesn't show much interest in the still life of some shoes that Vane has brought. He does offer Vane wealth and fame in return for a painting of someone whose soul will be taken. He gives him 90 days to complete the painting. Meanwhile, Vane is embroiled in a love triangle, and his mistress Nadja want him to divorce his wife Marie and go away with her. Vane decides to paint his wife, return it to the Devil, and eliminate her so that he can be free to take off with Nadja. However, the painting is so beautiful, he begins to fall in love with his wife all over again. Nadja discovers this, and, enraged, takes a knife to painting with the deadline looming. What to do now? The deadline for returning with the painting and redeeming the pawn ticket is April 5--the birthday of screenwriter Robert "Psycho" Bloch, who wrote the this episode's teleplay.
