So this is love?

This is one of those episodes I like best about Taxi, when it combines comedy and drama, especially when the actors are allowed to show their range instead of tired comedic routines. Other than the opening sequence when Louie tells the cabbies he's in love(it doesn't seem genuine when he tells them), Danny DeVito shows some real acting skills for most of this story. Why wasn't I convinced of his story early on? It just seemed slightly forced, plus the opening scene ended rather quickly with an odd fade-out; other than that, this was a very solid episode only weeks before Taxi was taken off the air. Louie's in love with a blind woman named Judy, played by Murphy Cross. Murphy? Anyway, she's about to have an operation in order to see again, and this scares Louie because he doesn't want her to see what he looks like, and he decides he won't propose to her now. It's difficult not to feel sorry for him, as he shows his emotions to Alex, who decided to go with him to the hospital after the operation, which was a success. Judy wants Louie to be the first thing she sees when she removes the bandages, and even though he's hesitant, he goes through with it. I won't say the nice ending was a letdown, and even though I'm glad she was very happy to still like his appearance, I still thought the scene was a bit underwhelming. This is still a very good episode which blends comedy and drama almost perfectly.
