The Only Appearance Of Alex's Sister, 13 January 2010

Joan Hackett guest-stars as Alex's sister "Charlotte." She's come to
the taxi garage to tell "Alex" (Judd Hirsch) that their father had a
heart attack and is lying unconscious in a hospital. We find out Alex
hasn't seen his father in 30 years and had obvious hard feelings. His
older sister then tries to talk him into seeing dad again, just in case
the worst happens.
Alex relents and goes to the hospital but it is a very strange visit,
to say the least.
Earlier, a few funny scenes with "Latka" and "Louie" and then Latka
with a Hispanic guy are very good. Man, it's good to see Andy Kauffman
and his strange character again, after all these years. (I'm watching
the Season Two DVD after having not seen these episodes since they were
aired 30 years ago.) Kauffman, Carol Kane, Christopher Lloyd and Danny
De Vito really played some strange people in this award-winning and
still-funny television show.
On a sadder note, Hackett - who only guest-starred as Alex's sister
once in this series - only lived several more years. She looked great
in this episode, a beautiful woman at the age of about 35, but suffered
and died in 1983 of ovarian cancer.
