I have been a fan of the "Taxi" TV series for a number of years. I am currently re-watching all of them on DVD.
In this episode Tony needs to go out of town for a couple of days for a boxing match, and he has two goldfish in a small tank that he needs someone to take while he is gone. Tony has had these for about 4 years, and to him they are a symbol of survival. If those two little fish can make it then so can he.
Bobby is his best friend but is reluctant when Tony first asks him, but relents. Tony tells Bobby, "Be sure to feed them every day." Bobby is a nice guy but somewhat irresponsible, and one day he gets busy with other things, including a new cute young lady. When Alex and John drop in to visit Bobby that evening, they find the two goldfish floating upside down, dead.
When Tony gets back and finds out what happened, he is very sore with Bobby and vows to never talk to him again. However they eventually patch things up and in the end, Bobby presents Tony with a hardwood board ... and the two little goldfish are mounted on it.
