Cracking episode.
Sleepin_Dragon10 March 2023
Chuck Baxter and his partner Tyler run a hugely successful, high pressuring charity, the issue in this instance being that charity begins and ends close to home. Marino is on the case, but it's a tough but to crack, Marino desperately tries to forge a relationship with Chuck's partner Annie.

Without a doubt this is perhaps the best episode of the nine I've seen so far, lots of great elements here. First off, the storyline itself is a cracker, charity fraud remains big 'business,' and still ranks as one of the worst crimes of all. We have fraud and murder, plenty of action scenes, and some cracking characters.

It was really interesting to learn who was the villain of the piece, and I loved Marino's involvement, it made a nice change for him to be very much in the thick of things. The final scene is a great one, Marino at his very best.

Only one character was somewhat irritating, Tina Balardi's Italian accent was a little bit over the top, as was the character, but she was amiable enough. Star of the show was Larry Blyden, glasses wearing Chuck was a great character, an actor that sadly passed away so young.

9/10.

Charity racketeers

It is the charity business that is in question here, a racket at a large scale. Millions of dollars amassed each year for everything, everywhere, and against which our favorite columnist will have to fight. A racket in which some politicians are involved. Crooked door to door salesmen business, disgusting at the most. Easy talking, fancy way of living for the rotten leaders of such organizations. Bribe runs everywhere and for everyone too, even the lead Stephen Mc Nally. Lok out for the terrific performance of Eddy Asner, as a hired killer, sort of henchman, the sidekick of the evil leader. His evil partner. Asner is outstanding here. I guess he was under employed in crime movies - for big screen I mean - but mostly in TV industry. Such a shame, he had the potential to perform such villains.

I once knew a few people who ran charitable foundations. It raised eyebrows, they were the kind of people who would trample over their grandmother to pick up a pound coin. Happily walk past a starving child and have a gourmet meal in a high class restaurant.

Suddenly we now had to believe that they really care about strangers in a far away country when they treat their own employees like dirt.

They were eventually found out by law enforcement who followed the money.

This episode sees Paul Marino investigating a fundraiser for a children's charity. Marino suspects that only a small amount goes on good causes and most of it on administration costs.

Chuck Baxter is the con man, Tyler does the numbers and hires a thug to commit murder. Baxter's womanising leave a woman scorned.

There is a good showdown by Marino as he exposes the bad guys in front of the great and the good.
