Babes in Wall Street
Prismark1016 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A very prescient episode. One of Boiler rooms, organised crime and a greedy arrogant man who knows how to game the rules and make money for himself.

Rick Manet (Harry Guardino) is a clever but an unscrupulous greedy man. His Space Age company claims to have found a valuable resource to be mined in South America.

However the expert's report has been twisted, enough for the Boiler Room to raise money from unwary investors.

Paul Marino is after Manet, but he needs someone to crack and go to the DA's office. Maybe lovelorn Carl Benham is the man who is too busy pining for singer Lili (Barbara Eden.)

Lili herself is being wooed by Manet.

Hard hitting and uncompromising. Just look at how criminals try to evade SEC rules. In the end there is one death and many others getting away with it.

There was a lot here that could had inspired Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, including holding meeting with the air con turned off.

Weaving gold from straw...
Sleepin_Dragon11 June 2023
Forget gold and silver, space travel is the future, and that means precious metals like zirconium and uranium, a site in Honduras is rich, and businessman Rick Manet gets huge backing, only the site isn't viable for mining.

I'd argue Babes in Wall Street is one of the stronger episodes, it's a story that has a huge relevance even now, in 2023. This could easily be reworked to fit into today's day and age, it focuses on one thing, greed.

It's well paced, it's definitely gritty, Manet is the worst type of crook, he's convincing, smart and believable, and worse, he sees nothing wrong with what he's doing, he's behaving as if he's owed a favour. I thought Harry Guardino was excellent in the part.

The wonderful Barbara Eden is also great as Lili, it's just a few years before she'd plan the part of Jeannie.

Favourite scene has to be that moment where a fired up Lili finally confronts Rick, and we get to see exactly the sort of man he is.

8/10.

The most corrupted is the financial jungle.
searchanddestroy-18 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Wall Street world, or may I say underworld, could not be forgotten in this crime series dedicated to corruption. Swindles into swindles where many people could lose their own way. Harry Guardino plays the evil one, the heavy character. At first, at the beginning of the episode, it is question of uranium, the number one just before gold, in term of wide world interest; uranium which use is for space conquest, spaceship construction. So, that said, this uranium rush will justify many crimes. Guardino is the usual guy, grown from the ghetto, who dreams to rule, dominate the world. Watch out the scene where he stands on his balcony, over NY by night, telling his life to Stephen McNally. Guardino is also here, as many other bad guys of this show, very ambivalent; not really bad, neither good. And so interesting. And beware, folks, a very surprisong and moral less ending.
