Hardie, sent by Wells Fargo, tries to clear a young man he hired for them charged with murder when he's found standing over a dead man with his gun still smoking. With no time due to a quick trial, Hardie is forced to act as his lawyer.
Jim Hardie is sent by Wells Fargo to help Tad Cameron who Hardie hired to be a shotgun for Wells Fargo. He arrives in town to find that a posse is getting ready to go out again to look for Tad. The sheriff tells Hardie he must have been a bad judge of character to hire Tad. He and George McClune walked in to find Tad standing with a smoking gun over the body of the man murdered. Tad then bolted. Hardie asks questions in town about Tad, the man killed and any witnesses. Tad is engaged to Julie Taylor. Hardie talks to her dad, a gunsmith, and then Julie herself who tells him where Tad may be hiding. He finds Tad in a mine and talks him into giving himself up. However, Deputy Sheriff Pierce who found them, wounds Tad and takes them in. Due to a quick trial the next day, Hardie must act as Tad's attorney and prove his innocence. Written by
