Jim Hardie in Deadwood to protect a shipment tries to prove a notorious gunslinger, Billy Reno, has been framed for holding up the stagecoach and murder after he realizes the case against Billy has come together far too easily.
Jim Hardie is sent to Deadwood, South Dakota to help protect a major shipment. After he reaches Deadwood he takes his horse to a stable where he finds the stableman working on a beautiful black horse that has been ridden hard and through river mud. He heads to the saloon where he finds the local agent, Mr. Stevens, who introduces him to the saloon owner, Bess Hollister. While talking they hear screams from outside. They go out to find a pair of horses harnessed together running into town. They are recognized as Wells Fargo horses from the stage Hardie was to meet. A posse finds the driver and guard shot in the back at a creek crossing. A hat they find leads them to the ex-outlaw Billy Reno who is now working a claim where he hit it big. Evidence is all pointing to Reno but too easily for Hardie. Written by
