Despite the encouragement of a loyal nurse, the abilities of Dr. Tyrell, a skilled neurosurgeon, are constantly derided by his officious and condescending superior, Dr. Foyle. Tyrell is surprised when Foyle selects him to assist in a delicate brain operation involving America's top physicist, whose survival is important to America's security and future well-being. Prospects for a successful procedure are slim, and Tyrell finds himself in the role of chief surgeon when Foyle unexpectedly backs out claiming illness. Tyrell finds himself in a no-win situation, but prior to the surgery he is visited by the enigmatic Dr, Xenon, who offers him use of a special pair of mysterious glasses which will help him in the operation.
