This episode tried too hard. Too many sub-plots, too much dialogue and too many characters made it too complicated.
Superintendent McVitie (the biscuit) is taken to hospital with a heart attack after a heated argument with Taggart. Mrs McVitie reacts very badly to Taggarts temporary promotion to Acting Superintendent and takes it out on the whole team, including Jean.
Jacki and Jardine begin investigating the death of drug addict, Scott Graham, who falls from a balcony during a drug fueled party. On the same evening Anna Polaski is abducted and brutally murdered and her body dumped in the Clyde river.
Suspicion falls on Harry McLeod, a taxi driver, when his cab is seen at both murder sites. McLoud has a record for violence and peddling drugs. When Lucy Ferguson is also murdered in identical circumstances suspicion falls on Father Doyle, a priest who isn't a priest.
Meanwhile Taggart is having reservations about Jardine and Jackei's ability to solve the case.
We are coming to the end of McManus' career as Taggart. It is obvious the producers were preparing the cast to carry on without him. Colin McCredie makes an appearance as a car thief. He will soon reappear as DC Stuart Fraser.
Die hard fans will enjoy this episode.
