The episode begins with two skulls being found on the site of a by-pass road near Glasgow. Taggart believes it could be that of Janet Gilmour, a 19 year old girl who disappeared without a trace four years previously. The detective has become emotionally involved with the case and the victim's mother.

The theft of a number of poisonous snakes soon leads to a series of grizzly murders. I could not watch victims being attacked by black mambas and deadly cobras and spent a great deal of time in the kitchen waiting for the all clear.

This episode plays like a whose who of British television. Geoffrey Beevers is solid. However, special mention should be made of Jeremy Young who plays Proffesor Hutton, the forensic detective who reconstructs the face of the murdered victim.

I did not enjoy this episode of Taggart. Snakes terrify me. However, the rest of the family assures me it was quite good. If you are going to watch it on DVD then be warned - sleep with the light on.
