Taggart verses the IRA, 24 March 2006
7/10
Author: bethwilliam from Port Stephens, Australia

By the time episode 13 came around Taggart was beginning to become sophisticated. This episode includes the possible involvement of the IRA, a group of players addicted to Dungeons and Dragons and a couple of safe crackers.

The Taggart web site claims that each episode took 6 months to research and write. This is not formula TV. In this episode the support characters have far more screen time than the regular actors. The quality of the performances is excellent.

The story begins with the wedding of a prisoner to his social worker. Then a truck hijacking inadvertently uncovers a cache of explosives. This sets off a chain of murders which appear to be linked. Taggart and Jardine are called in to investigate.

Vintage Taggart and no-one has ever filled the shoes of the wonderful Mark McManus.
