Taggart goes to Munich
16 March 2006 | by (Port Stephens, Australia) – See all my reviews

Rowena Bain's body is found in the woods and the evidence suggests suicide. But Taggart is suspicious. Why would a suicide be writing appointments in her diary and still be continuing research on fungi? The victim's sister soon appears and begins casting accusations against her brother-in-law whose first wife disappeared and is still missing.

The investigation takes Jim Taggart and his side kick, Jardine to Munich where they try to uncover a motive for murder.

This episode features James Laurenson as Maurice Bain. Australians will remember him as Boney, the Aboriginal detective, from the series of the same name.

I would not put this episode up against the classics of earlier times. Glasgow does not feature in the background and Munich looks like a Christmas cake. Long, lingering shots of castles and mountains are a poor substitute to the grit and grime of Scotland's largest city.

But it is still Taggart and Mark McManus is ready with his dry wit and one liners to solve another "mudder."
