Lana Lang Returns, Knows Who Is Whom
ccthemovieman-115 June 2007
Clark Kent's old high school flame, Lana Lang, is now a successful fashion designer. At a fashion show one night, reporters Clark and Lois spot her with Lex Luthor. While Lana goes in a dressing room to help one of the models, she's grabbed by two women - one a huge, manly-looking beast. Clark hears a scream, runs and changes into Superman and saves Lana as she is thrown through a high-rise window.

Lana knows Superman is Clark. She figured it out as soon as Superman began making headlines, the same time Clark left for Metropolis. She knew he had special powers when he was in Smallville. Superman doesn't deny it, surprisingly. He warns her that Luthor is a bad guy, but she doesn't believe it. She finds out, however, quickly and then decides she's going to be a spy and help and help find out about Luthor and a deal he is making with an arms dealer. This girl doesn't lack for self-confidence or modesty.

It turns out she isn't as smart as she thinks and Luthor is on to her....and Superman has to, once again, bail her out.

Overall, kind of lesser episode, especially coming off the intense two-parter on "The Main Man." This is a bit dull after those shows.

Also...how can Clark trust Lana to keep his famous secret? That problem is never addressed in this episode.

My favorite among Superman's initial episodes. Warning: Spoilers
While this episode is already the eleventh of this series, I like to still consider it as one of the initial ones because we are still in the process of knowing the "Dramatis Personae" which in this case we can consider it as made up of heroes, villains, supporting and incidental characters.

Among the supporting characters, my favorite one so far in this series is Lana: a little sweet and smiling girl who admits to have (or have had) a crush on Clark Kent, she says : "since we were three". She is also a capable fashion designer and businesswoman, but more importantly: she is in love with Clark, not with Superman. Actually for her, there doesn't seem to be much difference: there is no "Clark and Superman", just "Clark" and "Clark in disguise".

I remember that I have never liked Lois Lane (Superman's main love interest) till the series "Lois and Clark" and years later "Smallville" appeared. I had always felt that Superman would be happier with one of ladies in the Justice League like Ice, Fire, the Magician Zatanna, or of course... Wonder Woman. Nevertheless between those super-powered ladies and the initially obnoxious Lois Lane of this animated series, Lana seemed to be a great good option for the Man of Steel.

Talking about the story at hand, we have a Lana that serves as a spy for Superman about Lex's activities but she is on one side too careless and on the other one too enthusiastic for her own good. Even when she creates some problems while trying to help Superman to solve others, Lana is by far the most amusing character of this start of the series. Only time will tell if Lana ever accomplishes to be with the "Man of Steel" again, but in the meantime, she for sure accomplished to give us a hell of an episode!

Thanks for reading
