John Sheppard goes John McClane, and the Die Hard parallel becomes clear in the previous episode. This storyline pits a lone hero against what seems to be a vastly superior force, led by a particularly cold-blooded commander who shows no remorse in doing whatever it takes to achieve his objectives.

This two-part arc is one of the best story lines in the entire Stargate franchise. It's action packed, suspenseful, well acted, well written and well directed. The story clearly couldn't be told in a single episode any better than Die Hard could be done without a full length feature.

The special effects in this episode are also fantastic. When that storm hits, you almost feel like you're in a Hurricane.

Worth watching, and then watching again after you've finished the series and you want to go back to the best of the best.

Oddness in communication
stogsdilldanny4 April 2016
Excellent episodic situation, but one oddity comes to my thinking. When Maj. Sheppard picks up the Genii communicator, and is using it to talk to (Read that "Taunt") Kolya, the view switches to Kolya in the control room, using a human walkie-talkie. I didn't think they used the same frequencies as us milky-way types, but I'm not saying that this makes the episode bad. Just an odd goof. The storm was very well done, and the characters were becoming more defined, and it's always nice when the writing staff gives us a bad guy really worth hating. Most of the whole series is filled with gems of wit and I love the subtle things that a lot of people might not even notice. (Like when you see Ronon Dex start into a room, see someone conversing, and changes his mind, and walks away.) Things that real people do. It's rare that the characters in a sci-fi show seem like people you might meet. But it is always refreshing when the writers and actors fit together with this kind of seamless synergy.

"The Eye"
allmoviesfan16 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Like previous reviewers, I quickly deduced that "The Eye" was the show's writers paying homage to Die Hard.

Sheppard, of course, plays the hero, taking on the entirety of the Genii strike force occupying the Atlantis Stargate as the violent storm bears down on them in a big way. Watching the elusive Sheppard evade his enemies and frustrate their intentions whilst at times verbally taunting them is indeed John McClane-esque.

"Die Hard: Stargate" was a fun episode, in which the Wraith - the Big Bad of Stargate: Atlantis, a fact that has been rammed down our throats at every opportunity - was rarely mentioned. A nice departure from the usual. I have enjoyed the Genii: formidable enemies. No match for Sheppard, of course.

Warning: Spoilers
All in all, the series is great, the only annoying thing I see in this series is this "Teyla" character, I grant, she knows her way around, but her big mouth, and down right stupidity, caused Shepard's team lots of problems - - - Tactically speaking, and strategically as a soldier, I'd kick her out of my team - - - Her actions right from the start, are more liability then advantage - - - - but what can you expect from a woman in the spec ops team, where clod hard tactical decisions are more important then stupidity of emotions, that can lead to sever long run catastrophe - - - - the best example are her actions at the beginning of the series, in the part "Season 1, Episode 7: Underground" Where she tries to save a doomed man, thus leading to death of the soldier accompanying her, and alerting the whole ship to their presence, as the soldier had to shut that doomed man ( shooting him, leading to their discovery ) - - - - Suffice it to say, to me her character is annoying as hell, but hey every show has to have those too - - - - It is just a comment, not a criticism - - -

Teyla versus Sora
Kortian_Knight7 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
In a previous Stargate: Atlantis episode, entitled, "The Underground," the character Chief Cowan had described Sora as "a skilled fighter." Furthermore, in both that episode and the episode preceding this one, entitled, "The Storm," it was established that Sora, believing Teyla had killed her father in the episode "The Underground," was motivated by revenge, setting up a much-anticipated fight between the two women. However, when fight between Teyla and Sora eventually took place, I was less than impressed. In my opinion, as a martial arts practitioner, Sora did not conduct herself like "a skilled fighter" and was defeated by Teyla way too easily. Had Sora fought better, it would have also made Teyla look good to have triumphed over a more competent combatant.
