It's never explained why B'Elanna has to be treated for a condition that is normal in here world. The logical thing to do would be for the Mari to simple banish B'Elanna, or the whole crew from the planet. It makes no sense to do a neurologic procedure on a being, or beings that aren't a part of population. And who only had thoughts. See more
