The Enterprise respond to a request for medical assistance from Dr. Ira Graves, considered by many to be the greatest living mind in the universe. Graves didn't want any help and the Enterprise was summoned by his assistant Kareen. He is a crotchety old man who doesn't really like people but is now in the terminal stages of his illness. He taught Data's creator, Dr. Soong, everything he knows and describes himself as the android's grandfather. Knowing that the end is near, he transfers all of his knowledge and intellect into Data. As a result, Data begins to act differently and becomes a cause of concern to Picard and others.- Written by garykmcd
The Enterpise goes out of its way and performs a trick to allow an away party to respond to a mystery distress calls from the small, private planet where great, old galactic genius Ira Graves lives and works with his attractive young assistant Kareen Brianon. She was right in seeking the medical help he objects too, as he's diagnosed with a terminal disease. fascinated by data, he spends his last hours with the android, whose creator's mentor he was. When data returns aboard, his character changes, more assertive and obsessed with Kareen, whom the Enterprise is bringing to an inhabited planet. Gradually, Picard comes to realize data has been implanted with Ira's memories which also implants his cocky personality, which seems to overrule Data's own.- Written by KGF Vissers
Data's "grandfather", Dr. Ira Graves, is close to death. Dr. Graves transfers his mind, will and emotions into Data and expires. Data now has two personalities, his own being slowly erased by that of Dr Graves. Thus, Data is "The Schizoid Man".- Written by Anonymous
