The Enterprise encounters an ancient alien probe, and when the crew begins to investigate it Captain Picard is rendered unconscious. Awakening in a small village on a backwater planet, Picard is assured that he is a well-known member of this community where he has lived his entire life. Picard attempts to convince his family of his true identity, but as the days turn into weeks and months he becomes attached to his new life and begins to question his own memories of being a starship captain.
