As all the Klingon costumes were being used for the concurrently shot Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989), most of the Klingons are actually wearing boots from the old Planet of the Apes (1974) TV series.
In the briefing about the Ares, Riker learns of the first officer, Commander Flaharty, who has a flair for languages. Captain Picard calls it a "unique ability of instantaneously interpreting and extrapolating any verbal communication.". This ability is resurrected in the fifth Star Trek series, "Enterprise" (2001) in the character of Ensign (later Lieutenant) Hoshi Sato.
Mitch Ryan (Kyle Riker) was originally a top studio choice to play Captain Picard.

John Tesh was credited as Klingon, but became a Name in the official Star Trek Customizable Card Game: K'Tesh. A modification of the actor's Name.

The title refers to Icarus, son of Daedalus and is commonly known in Greek mythology for his attempt to escape Crete by flight, which ended in a fall to his death.

Cameo 

John Tesh: erstwhile host of Entertainment Tonight (1981) appears as the Klingon K'Tesh in Worf's Ascension Chamber on the holodeck. His appearance was heavily featured in "Entertainment Tonight" at the time.
